A group of watermelon vendors in the Qinhuai district of Nanjing decided to vent their anger with the local chengguan, China’s asshole urban management officers, by throwing and smashing dozens of delicious fruit from their own stand.
Noticing that the vendors were illegally occupying parts of the road, the chengguan officers asked the hawkers to leave, explaining that they had received multiple phone calls from residents complaining about their watermelon stalls blocking the pavement.
Outraged, vendors said they had been selling fruit there for years and tried to get permission from the urban management department but were refused. As the dispute escalated, they began picking up watermelons and smashing them on the ground, even hitting passing vehicles in an attempt to stop traffic.
A massacre ensued.
According to the report, the officer returned on Tuesday and handed vendors a citation for illegally hawking their goods. He confiscating the produce until the vendors admitted to their mistake.
