Earlier this month, staff at a technology company in Shanghai were surprised one morning to find that a large golden bust of Steve Jobs had appeared to watch over them as they entered the office.
According to NetEase, each morning the company’s employees are required to go through the piercing gaze of Apple’s founder as they approach the office punch-card machine.
The team which set the statue said that they did so in order to inspire the employees to learn from Jobs who is widely regarded as someone who always strove for perfection in his work.
Steve Jobs has acquired, just like in many other parts of the world, somewhat of a cult following in China. Following his death in 2011, Weibo exploded with tributes, quotes, videos, news, and photos. While we doubt he’ll match Jobs in the Chinese conciousness, Tim Cook has himself gained somewhat of a following in China, being greeted by jubilant crowds during his recent tour of the mainland.
