Plumes of black smoke could be seen rising up into the air as a fire raged on at a petrochemical plant in Rizhao, Shandong this morning.
The blaze broke out around 7:38 a.m., and was believed to have been caused by leakage of liquified hydrocarbon from a 1000-square-meter tank at the plant.
According to Xinhua news, the plant belonged to Shida Petrochemical Techonology Limited.
A total of 138 firefighters and 23 fire engines were dispatched to the plant to combat the flames. Specialists from the Ministry of Environmental Protection in Lanshan, Rizhao also arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of fire.
So far, there is no report of injury or death. Firefighters from the nearby city of Qingdao have rushed to the site to help contain the flames.
