A Yunnan army recruit who dropped a hand grenade during military training was saved by his quick-thinking instructor, who pulled him and another trainee into a foxhole before the thing exploded. No, you are not experiencing déjà vu, and yes, this has happened before.
The trainees were testing grenade-use when one of them failed to toss the explosive beyond the safety barrier, perhaps due to nerves or because the thing simply slipped through his sweaty palms.
The instructor grabbed the army recruit and jumped into the trench seconds before the grenade exploded feet away. None of them were injured.
