Two people were left dead and 24 more injured when a man set off a homemade explosive outside of a park in Heze, Shandong province yesterday night.
The suspect, 33-year-old Xie Xintang, was killed in the blast, which occurred at around 10:00 p.m. near Shan county’s Huxi Park. Three of the injured people are now in critical condition.
It’s believed that Xie had intended to commit suicide. The materials used in the homemade explosive have not yet been identified, Xinhua reports, citing press officer Li Meng at the county public security bureau.
The unemployed suspect had been living with liver cirrhosis, scarring of the liver caused by long-term liver damage. He had reportedly been admitted to the hospital on a number of occasions but treatment had failed to help him, and his condition had recently worsened.
No motive was officially confirmed and further investigation is under way.
