A photo of a Chongqing toddler seemingly downing a bottle of beer has sparked anger online after being released on Tuesday morning by China Central Television (CCTV).
According to reports, the 19-month-old child, called Tangtang, doesn’t stop drinking once he ahold of a beer bottle, and can down half a beer in one go.
Tangtang’s 31-year-old father told reporters that he had once offered a few drops of beer to the child during a family gathering, and the baby appeared to have “gotten drunk”.
In the following few months, the father, who also dabbles in the devil’s tonic, continued to offer his son beers, white whines and red wines.
The father said he wanted to “foster the child’s courage” but now feels guilty about getting the kid hooked on the stuff. Apparently he gets giddy every time he lays eyes on a brew and reaches out for it.
“The beer has become his new milk,” Tangtang’s father said.
China prohibits drinking or smoking under 18, but some parents seem to flout these laws. Last year, web users were up-in-arms over a two-year-old boy in Anhui province who became known as the “Little Winebibber” due to his preference for alcohol over milk.
And let’s not forget about that cig-puffing toddler who appeared in a viral video last summer.
