A Shanghai man has been apprehended by police after surveillance cameras caught him throwing feces from a higher floor of a residential complex in Jing’an District.
It was not the first of such ‘sky excrement bomb‘ attacks, as a number of residents in the neighborhood in recent months have complained about instances of feces falling and urine being poured down from above.
Residents didn’t even dare to hang their clothes out of their apartment windows and sheltered themselves with umbrellas.
“A boy living here was hit by an ‘excrement ball’ the day he was setting off to take part in gaokao (China’s national college entrance exams),” an elderly resident said. “The boy was crying heavily after the attack. How could a person do this to others?”
With mounting complaints from the neighborhood, security staff and police jointly set up five surveillance cameras to catch the perpetrator.
In the footage, the man was seen first pouring some urine-like liquid out of his window, then throwing a dubious-looking bundle wrapped in newspaper downstairs. He also hawked a loogie and sent it flying downward in an attempt to hit innocent passersby.
Police said the man, 40, lived alone with low incomes, leading to a psychological imbalance. According to China.org, he wanted to vent his anger over his neighbors, whom he hated for living comfortably and well-off.
