When it comes to square-dancing, nothing can stand in the way of China’s middle-aged women. On Wednesday evening, over 10 square dancers were spotted moving three parked vehicles with their bare hands at the Sanyaocun Metro station in Yanta district, Xi’an. Apparently, the square-dancing aunties moved the vehicles just so they could have more space to *groove*.
A passerby, surnamed Tang, witnessed the whole thing and filmed it for our enjoyment. Tang said the aunties had moved three vehicles in total, including a BYD, a Toyota and a van.
“I was really shocked at that time. I never saw that coming,” Tang said, adding that sever passersby had gathered around to take photos. He recalled that one of the square-dancers was rather intimidating and would not allow others to film her.
We probably wouldn’t mess with her.
In the footage, 10 middle-aged women could be seen surrounding a black private car, pushing it backwards. The car began moving slowly, but due the sloping ground, began rolling with increased speed. After moving the vehicle backwards about six to seven meters, the women let go and it eventually stopped. The ladies then resumed their square-dancing.
Online, netizens joked about Xi’an’s unstoppable square-dancing aunties, while others criticized the ladies for going a tad too far in the name of recreational outdoor activity.
“Why haven’t the police done anything about these square dancing aunties? They are disrupting social order, damaging public property and disturbing other citizens with their noisy music,” one web user said . “These are all behaviors that disrupt social security. How come the police are not stopping them?”

China’s elderly square dancers have seen their fair share of controversy. Last month, square dancers in Hong Kong were accused of offering prostitution services.
