A man in Xiamen was driving a bus full of passengers yesterday when he suddenly began vomiting blood. He immediately slammed the brakes and turned off the ignition to stop the bus, coughing up blood in the process. Just when the bus came to a halt, he fainted and collapsed on the steering wheel. The driver’s immediate braking managed to saved all the passengers on board.
One of the passengers, surnamed Xiao, saw the unconscious driver slipping off his seat. He quickly went up to hold the bus driver steady while calling the police for help. Another bus passing by also stopped to help transport the unconscious driver to a hospital nearby. According to the doctors, Chen Yi was suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding.
Chen Yi is 47 years old, and has been driving the 68 bus line since 2012. Chen’s supervisor, surnamed Liao, told reporters that when Chen regained his consciousness, his first response was to ask if all the passengers were okay.
