It’s that time of year again when China’s middle-aged mahjong players throw on their swimsuits and relocate to cooler gaming stations.
Rather than a swimming pool, however, hundreds of people were seen setting up tables on the shore of a local river in Longchi town, Dujiangyan city of Sichuan province as the mercury climbed up to 38.8 degrees Celsius.
Some splashed about in the water while others soaked their feet beneath the shade of an umbrella as they engaged in their favorite (occasionally deadly) past time.
Mahjong is an ancient Chinese tile game which is often seen being played by elderly people at parks and on street sides, even in fry-an-egg-on-the-ground sizzling hot temperatures.
