The parents of a three-month-old baby born with a life-threatening health defect which caused his weight to drop down to about two kilograms are now seeking help from the media.
The infant, Guo Enze, was diagnosed with an imperforate anus, meaning his anus is naturally blocked and cannot excrete properly.
Guo was born into a rather tragic home in Huguan County of Shanxi. The parents of Guo are both migrant workers from Changzhi, Shanxi. The baby’s mother, 24-year-old Ren Minge, lives with mental illness, while the father, 27-year-old Guo Hongqing, still suffers from a bone fracture he sustained in a work accident two years ago. The child’s grandparents also live with the family, and the two both live with severe illnesses as well. The family is supported by Guo Hongqing, who works in a factory and makes about 2,000 RMB a month only.
Little Guo has shrunk down to just skin and bones. Due to his inability to excrete, his belly has also swollen, and his pale body is tinted with green bruises.
In most cases, such a health defect requires immediate surgery through which the doctor opens up a passage for excretion. However, the baby’s parents could not afford the medical bill.
The baby’s grandfather, Zhang Dongsheng, told reporters that they could only feed the child with drops of powdered milk.
“The baby can only urinate and excrete through his urethra, which causes him a lot of pain, so we cannot give him more food,” said Zhang.
With the help of a baby-aid NGO, the family’s story has spread across national media. According to CCTV, Fan Wei, the CEO of the NGO, donated 10,000 RMB to the family and said that more fund-raising efforts will be held in order to help save the child’s life.
