ChinaJoy, the largest annual digital entertainment and gaming expo in Asia, kicked off yesterday in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Despite cleavage crackdowns, the expo still attracted plenty of visitors.
According to new regulations, showgirls who show off more than two centimeters of cleavage will be hit with a 5,000 RMB fine this year. If their pants also happen to hang more than two centimeters below their waist, that’s another 5,000 RMB penalty. Models caught posing “vulgarly” or partaking in obscene performances will have to part with a whopping 10,000 RMB.
The crackdown on cleavage and cracks apparently didn’t deter gamers and photographers from trekking to the expo. Based on ticket sales, the event is predicted to attract around 300,000 visitors, 50,000 more than last year.
A showgirl revealed that their new costumes this year were designed to look more conservative and theme-based, as the companies had stricter requirements for their appearances.
Various companies lured visitors with free gifts such as gaming props and coins, as well as T-shirts with celebrities’ signatures.
“I came very early this morning to queue up for the special gifts. I’ve queued for over three hours and have gotten four gift packages,” a visitor said.
