A 30-year-old man hauled piles of coins worth 12,000 yuan into a jewelry shop in Fuyang, Anhui province on Saturday to buy a diamond ring so that he could propose to his longtime girlfriend.
The man, identified as Liang Liang, had known the woman for 20 years and had promised to propose to her when they were just kids, according to the Yingzhou Evening News.
Liang Liang used a tricycle to carry the stacks of coins, all together weighing 150kg, to the jewelry store. Staff at the shop spent half the day counting the small change, but were so touched by his commitment that the manager decided to put the coins on display to show the “best evidence of true love”.
Upon proposing to his girlfriend, Liang Liang asked: “Do you remember 20 years ago, I said I would earn money and marry you?”
“Now I’ve earned enough to buy you a ring, please marry me!”
The woman tearfully accepted, according to SCMP.
