A university student and aspiring actress who’d gone missing over the weekend was reportedly killed by a male classmate who’d tried to rape her and failed.
The woman, identified as Zhou Yunlu, was a second year student majoring in acting at the Communication University of China in Beijing.
A WeChat message reporting her disappearance had spread quickly across campus and was picked up by media over the weekend. Police acted on a missing-person notice late last night and have already arrested a suspect, a 23-year-old from the school surnamed Li.
Li told the police that he killed Zhou after he failed to rape her, according to a Xinhua report. It’s not clear what weapon he used or whether her body has been recovered.
The two had apparently known each other, as she was performing in a role for a crew organized by Li.
