A family from Weining Yi Hui and Miao Autonomous County in Guizhou provence couldn’t afford medical expenses for their 14-year-old son’s eye replacement surgery. Thankfully, little Deng Guangwei, who lost his eye in an accident involving a tree branch five years ago, was helped out by a kind-hearted woman from Shanghai.
An office worker, surnamed Fan, donated money to pay for Deng’s treatments at the Eye Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University, as well as the boy and his father’s travel expenses, Shanghai Daily reports. Fan had first met Deng when she visited his school in 2013, and she has been providing funds for children there ever since. Fan declines to reveal the amount of money she has contributed to the community, but praised Minrui Eyes the company that solved Deng’s problem.
“It’s wonderful to know that there are so many kind-hearted people who are ready to help those in need,” said Fan.
Yesterday’s surgery is reported to have been successful and Deng is now recovering well with a new prosthetic eye.
Another charitable citizen in the Weining Yi Hui and Miao Autonomous County made headlines this year after it was reported that he’d volunteered to move from a school with better conditions to serve as the only teacher at a rural village school.
