A male cabin crew member onboard a Cebu Pacific Air flight bound for China has been accused of stealing up to 8,000 yuan from Chinese passengers.
Chinese media reports and posts circulating on social media allege that three passengers complained about losing cash when the plane, which departed from the Kalibo International Airport, landed at the Changsha Huanghua International Airport in Hunan province on August 11.
Authorities boarded the plane and recovered the stolen money. It’s alleged that the flight attendant tried to rid himself of the evidence by flushing a bulk of the bills down the toilet. Several soggy bank notes were also found stuffed inside the trash can in the lavatory.
Passengers have even alleged that the crew members were co-conspiring to carry out the theft.
Cebu Pacific Corporate Communications Manager, Michelle Fojas, was cited in a Rappler report as saying that “CEB has been made aware of an alleged incident of theft” on the flight to China and that it is conducting “a thorough investigation” into the matter.
The suspect in question has been suspended and all other crew members onboard the flight at the time have been placed on “paid leave and a non-flying status” as investigation is underway.
