More than 1,000 swimmers took to the waters of the Hanjiang River basin on August 16 to create some happy memories of summertime 2015. As it sometimes goes, this involved reenacting the killing of “Japanese devils” by the dozens.
Events took place in 30 cities where the Han River flows through Shaanxi and Hubei provinces. Chinese men dressed as “Japanese devils” surrendered to women baring Peking opera spears.
Note the pure joy in the faces of the participants.
Going by this NetEase News report, the swimming competition got upstaged by all the fun they were having on dry land.
In light of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, events in China are full of such spectacles. Just check out this Shandong theme park.
