A young boy who fell from the top of waterfall in Weining county of Guizhou province on Sunday managed to survive after he grabbed onto a cliff edge and climbed up to a safe spot.
In photos published by CCTV News, the boy is seen waiting for rescuers on a small landing that juts out from the cliff next to rushing water. Police helped pull him up to safety using rope.
It’s unclear how old the boy is or why he fell.
Last month, a tourist from Shanghai fell to his death while rappelling down a waterfall in the Xianju county of Zhejiang province.
Chinese tourists have previously been warned about following safety precautions after similar incidents have ended tragically. In 2013, a 27-year-old Beijing resident hurt himself when he climbed an arch and fell at a National Park in Utah, although visitors were warned not to do so. Months before that, another tourist died after falling 55 meters from a cliff in Heilongjiang province while posing for photos.
Reports did not say whether warning signs had been posted near the waterfall.
