How do you rescue a buffalo that’s fallen down a well? No, this isn’t a joke and (sadly) there’s no punchline. Firefighters from Yinjiang county in Guizhou province actually came up with an ingenious plan to retrieve cattle from deep underground.
Using their fire engine’s hose, the rescuers filled the well with water so that the buffalo simply floated back to the surface. The bright idea was a superb alternative to tranquillising the beast and heaving it up with a winch.
Fortunately for the buffalo, there wasn’t a tiger waiting for it—that’s what happened last week to this most-unlucky bear in Shanghai Wild Animal Park.
Perhaps the owner will think to erect a fence around the well to stop such a situation from happening again. What was going through that buffalo’s mind when it fell down the well, we’ll never know, but one thing’s for sure—it must have been parched.
