Hundreds of baby chicks spilled out onto the road when a poultry truck overturned on an expressway in Binzhou city, Shandong province yesterday, resulting in what may be the fuzziest roadside accident ever witnessed.
Traffic officers blocked off the expressway so that none of the chicks would get hit by cars, causing congestion down the road for several miles. While some casualties were spotted at the scene of the accident, a majority of the baby birds survived.
Not long after they were liberated from the confines of the truck, however, local residents arrived at the scene and began catching them by the handful. After enjoying a few moments of sweet, sweet freedom, the wee chicks were piled into bins, boxes and backs of tricycles, despite police officers’ attempts to stop the looting.

We can only hope that some of these birdies manage to escape the ill fate that had most likely awaited them.
The chickens were reportedly worth around 50,000 yuan. While the amount of birds pilfered in the accident has not been reported, similar instances in the past have resulted in pretty massive losses.
