To mark the annual Ghost Festival, thousands of live ducks were seen being sold at Hangsheng North Road in Liuzhou city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region early this morning.
The Ghost Festival (Zhongyuanjie), or the Hungry Ghost Festival, falls on the 15th day of the seventh month on the Chinese lunar calendar (tomorrow).
According to Sina News, it’s a local custom for Guangxi residents to eat duck meat during the festival. To boost the business, a number of vendors sold the ducks in the street as early as they could.
It’s reported that more than 100,000 ducks flooded the streets for several hundreds of meters, as loud quacking resounded through the neighborhood.
Earlier this week, Sichuan residents lit hundreds of fires along the riverside to celebrate the festival, sending the city’s Air Quality Index soaring.
