Just at the end of China’s unexpected and disappointing scoreless draw against Hong Kong in a World Cup qualifier in Shenzhen on Thursday night, Hong Kong’s goalkeeper alleges that China’s team captain spit on his face in frustration and then later called him a “fucking dog.”
As you can see in the GIF below, China’s captain Zheng Zhi stands over Hong Kong’s heroic goalie Yip Hung Fai for just a few extra seconds. What happens in those moments?
Yip Hung Fai alleges that the 2013 Asian Footballer of the Year spit down right into his face and then later added insult to insult by calling him a “fucking dog” after the match.
Yip made a post on his Instagram later yesterday night with a short paragraph: “We did it! We were supposed to lose. You’re mad at not winning and you came up to me and called me a ‘fucking dog.’ Asian Footballer of the Year, you have great football skills, but you fail in terms of sportsmanship.”
For his part, Zheng Zhi has denied all of the allegations. Speaking with Sina Sports News earlier today, Zheng said that he didn’t know anything about the incident: “I cursed at him? I didn’t do anything like that. I did say a little something to him. I said, “Hurry and get up, nobody’s going to hit you!”
Check it out for yourself. We honestly can’t spot any saliva.
After not winning a game that they completely dominated, China can no longer afford any further slip ups as they travel to Shenyang to take on the Maldives on Tuesday night and then travel to Doha in October where they pretty much must avoid defeat to make it to the next round of qualifying.
