We’ve seen plenty of mass ornaments from China, but this is a new one: 906 people bouncing tennis balls on rackets in harmony with one another. That’s what happened at the Beijing National Tennis Centre on September 5, when Zheng Jie broke the Guinness World Record accompanied by 905 tennis enthusiasts.
They smashed the previous world record for “the most people bouncing tennis balls on tennis rackets”, which was set by 675 Londoners in 2013.
Another world record might be a boost to national pride, but Zheng’s 6-1 6-2 loss in the 2015 Australian grand slam against Taiwanese, world number 151, Chang Kai-Chen certainly wasn’t. Zheng is currently number 402 in the WTA women’s singles rankings.
