A truck destined for Nanchang was involved in a major highway collision with the rear-end of a bus this morning in an accident that left 12 people dead and hospitalised 19 others. Reports from the site near Xinyang city, Henan, say the accident was worsened by slippery conditions that caused the heavy vehicles to roll.
When rescue workers arrived on scene, nine people were already dead and three more died as they were rushed to the hospital. Emergency services were dispatched to rescue the injured bus passengers and control traffic in the area.
NetEase commenters say the Henan highway is particularly dangerous stretch of road. Many speculated that the truck driver had been going too fast inside slow lane of the highway.
