Five fortunate ballet dancers were approved to become the very first tourists to grace Asia’s largest glass scenic platform located in Chongqing’s Wulong county, which is expected to open to the rest of us during the upcoming October holiday.
One of the dancers, 19-year-old Zhou Qiaoqiao, who has been practicing ballet for 13 years, said it was her first time performing outdoors and she was thrilled to fulfill her lifelong dream of “dancing in the air.”
Zhou told reporters that she was completely petrified at the beginning, but as the dance went on she started to feel as if she was flying through the sky surrounded by beautiful scenery.
The hanging platform juts out 11 meters from the edge of a cliff at Tian Sheng San Qiao, a series of limestone formations located in Xiannushan Town, and measures 26 meters wide. The see-through viewing deck sits a cool 1,200 meters above sea level.
Designed by more than 20 experts from at home and abroad, the viewing platform is completely embedded in the palisades.
According to the staff members at the site, the platform can accommodate around 300 visitors at the same time and a single pane can sustain a maximum weight of ten tons.
We know where we’re going this Golden Week!
