A young mother in Fujian province was arrested on Friday after she was spotted throwing her two-year-old daughter into a small river and causing the child’s death.
According to a a local security officer, he and two of his colleagues rushed to the scene after receiving a phone call at 10:30 a.m.
“When we were about to arrive at the bridge, we saw a woman sitting on the guardrail throw a little girl off into the water,” Cai told reporters.
Cai and another officer jumped into the water to try to save the child while the third officer tried to keep the woman under control and her other daughter under control.
Failing to find the child, they had to call in a salvage team to help. The team found the girl’s lifeless body after a 20-minute-long search.
According to a preliminary investigation, the woman surnamed Zou was born in 1995 in Guizhou province but has lived in Fujian province in recent years. The child who drowned was just two years old, Zou also has another five-year-old daughter.
Zou confessed to police that she had thrown her younger daughter into the river because of some family conflict.
