A Hubei scenic sight has taken the competitive scene of see-through viewing platforms in China to a whole other level this month with a suspended, transparent elevator that shoots tourists up 145 meters, giving them a clear view of the idyllic Dabie Mountains on the border of Hubei and Anhui provinces, while also destroying the view for anyone unlucky enough to be gazing in the monstrous elevator’s general direction.
The sightseeing elevator was built by a tourist destination in Luotian County near Tiantangzhai Mountain. At a total cost of 20 million yuan, the machine is located 1,080 meters above sea level and has an operating speed of 2.5 meters per second, taking 18 tourists at a time to the top in 54 seconds of photo-snapping bliss.
We’ll see if they hire some ballet dancers to convince people that it is safe to walk and pirouette on.
We’re just happy they decided not to build an escalator.
