What adjective would you use to describe Chinese leader Xi Jinping? Humble? Wise? Cute? These are just some of the answers given by foreigners after People’s Daily asked them that eternal question “Who is Xi Dada?”
The interviewees first discussed the most important thing about Xi, his appearance. Most had very nice things to say, so that should be goof for his self-esteem. One chipper Californian, who once read Xi Dada a poem, eloquently described him as “Handsome, yah, he’s super charismatic.”
Another Indonesian student said that he knows Xi Dada for his constant, warm smile.
Meanwhile, an Austrian student described Xi’s face as “a little bit cute. Everybody looks at him and they just like him.”
However, a man from Chicago just had to bring up Xi’s likeness to a certain chubby cartoon bear.
Next the interviewees were charged with discussing the Chinese president’s beloved nickname Xi Dada. One student had apparently heard the term on the English news and so knew that it means Uncle Xi. However, the Indonesian interviewee went a bit farther and said that Xi was more “like a big brother or maybe a father.” He’s definitely some close male relative.
Taking after Mark Zuckerberg, one American student even has his very own copy of Xi’s international bestseller, which he “would actually love to read it.” You know, sometime.
Others complimented Xi on his strong command of foreign policy and how he really tries to “communicate with all the countries.”
Numerous articles have been published recently trying to figure out exactly who Xi Jinping is. It turns out that the China experts could saved a lot of research time and just asked some cornered Confucius Institute students.
They will tell you that Xi Dada is not just a charismatic businessman, but also a well-educated family man with a strong international reputation, capable of making the U.S. and China good friends for 10,000 years. Also, he is perfect husband material.
