A troupe of more than 30 Snow Monkeys, otherwise known as Japanese macaques, were dressed in outfits and made to perform a variety of tricks before an audience in Dongying city, Shandong province.
The performance was apparently the first of its kind in mainland China and took place on 24 September.
The monkeys were made to act out several scenes which were given names such as “monkey classroom,” “exercise class” and “music party.”
While the audience were reported to have had a great time, unable to stop laughing at the antics of the performing monkeys, we can’t help but feel that the monkeys didn’t enjoy things anywhere near as much.
It is rumored that organizers are training the monkeys in the hope that they will be able to perform at next year’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala, which apparently is in need of a dose of animal exploitation.
