Over the past few days a team of very nimble sanitation officers have worked round the clock to clean up the litter left behind by inconsiderate tourists visiting Fragrant Hills Park.
According to Tencent, in order to keep the park clean during Golden Week, a team of 140 workers pull 15 hour shifts, most of the work taking place away from the safety of the paths in precipitous areas where visitors toss their rubbish.
A 53-year-old worker surnamed Chen and his 51-year-old colleague surnamed Qu work together as a team, with one ensuring the safety of the other as they work on steep terrain to tidy up the mounds of litter left behind.
The work takes a physical toll in more ways than one. In addition to the long hours they are required to work, the officers have to wade their way through the prickly fauna which grows on the mountains and often injure themselves on rocks.
Over the first two days of the holiday, over 6 tons of rubbish was collected by the sanitation workers. The good news is that this is 20 percent lower than what was collected last year.
