China is nearing the completion of the world’s largest radio telescope and it has the drone footage to prove it.
The massive structure called FAST, located in a bowl-shaped valley in Guizhou province, will allow scientists to gather signals from tens of billions of light years away when it is completed in 2016.
This is all pretty damn impressive considering it was just in July that work started attaching the 4,450 triangular-shaped panels to the telescope’s reflector.
The dish is the first of its kind in China and will allow Chinese (military) scientists to stop having to rely on second-hand data in the search for extraterrestrials.
Hugo award winning novelist Liu Cixin is probably pretty hyped.
