Each night a road in downtown Wuhan transforms into a scene from the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the mid-1950s with multiple gangs of (elderly) dancers competing to see who rules the street.
Witnesses report that there are several hundred dancing aunties altogether. They are divided up into around 10 different dance teams. Every night they line up on opposite sides of the street and have fun competing against one another, feeling pretty, and witty, and gay.
We just hope that the gangs confine their battles to the dance floor and no rivalries start to break out between the various gangs. We also hope that they don’t start running afoul of the law with China’s recent crackdowns against the noisy social disease.
Of course, once a dancing auntie, always a dancing auntie. The music tells them what to do.
