A tweet yesterday from smooth-talking party-mouthpiece People’s Daily reported on Sunday’s presidential election in Belarus in remarkable fashion.
Completely throwing serious reporting out the window, the publication chose to brazenly comment on attractive female voters in the accompanying picture, rather than the election itself. People’s Daily also noted that the five “stunners” at the polling station on Sunday were “no plain-Janes.”
A twitter user summed up the post well: “Stay classy @PDChina.”

On a more politically relevant note, President Alexander Lukashenko (often referred to as “Europe’s last dictator”) won the presidential race at a canter with a landslide 83.5% of the vote. This marks his fifth consecutive term in office. The vote itself, however, has been criticized by observers for not meeting democratic standards.
Last month, People’s Daily released a video featuring foreigners complimenting Chinese President Xi Jinping on his “handsome and cute” appearance and “super charismatic” demeanor. The state-run publication has also done groundbreaking work on when you should drink water.
