Following up on yesterday’s artistically-gifted Changchun security guard who quit his job to pursue making a galloping horse out of toothpicks, today a rice field near Shanghai has risen to prominence as the site of another remarkable piece of art.
Chen Jinxiang is the 71 year old creative mastermind behind the endeavor to “grow” a map of China along with other colorful designs in a testing field in Fengjing Town, in southwest Shanghai’s Jinshan district. The dedicated man was able to create the works and the various hues required by using over 30 different types of rice. These were all cultivated by himself from some 800 experimental samples, reports Xinhua.
Chen is a retired technician from the local Agricultural Technology Station, and has been studying rice cultivation for more than 30 years.
