Country Life by Brian Michael Reed @ Baoshan Museum
Brian’s paintings are an investigation into what the lotus means in oriental art. The paintings are in a series called ‘Into the Red Mist’, which have come to Shanghai to be part of a larger show entitled ‘Country Life: Brian Michael Reed’s Interaction with PeasantCulture’. The show is a contemporary art event in the Shanghai Baoshan International Folk Arts Festival, open for 1 month until November 15. On the opening day, the curator will lead a tour of the exhibition followed by a performance and artist reception.

French Week @ Yandang Road
The 14th year of French Week, supported by the French Consulate in Shanghai, will take place in the pedestrianised section of Yandang Road. The street stalls showcase French produce, food, wine and fashion. There will also be accordion music, mosaic-art classes and games of petangque (boules).

Virunga film screening @ New Haworth Space

Mikhail Pletnev Piano Recital @ Oriental Art Center
One of the most masterful pianists of our time, Pletnev defies conventional classifications in music, and also has talent for conducting and composing. He won a grammy in 2005, along with a Presidential Prize and Order “For Service to the Homeland” as he was educated in the Moscow Conservatory and founded the Russian national orchestra. He will play Beethoven ‘Piano Sonata No. 10. Op.14/2’, ‘Piano Sonata No.17, Op.31/2′, and Scrianbin ’24 Preludes, Op.11’.
