The 14th year of French Week, supported by the French Consulate in Shanghai, will take place in the pedestrianised section of Yandang Road. The street stalls showcase French produce, food, wine and fashion. There will also be accordion music, mosaic-art classes and games of petangque (boules).

Shanghai Rolex Masters ATP Tennis @ Qi Zhong Tennis Center
The world’s greatest tennis players, including Djokovic, Williams, Federa, Sharapova and Nadal, are all competing for the grand slam and $4,783,320 prize money. Most days are already sold-out, but you’ll probably find touts outside the venue. If money isn’t an issue, there are 3,000 – 4,000 RMB VIP tickets still available for most days.

BEVEX International Beer Festival @ Wharf 1846
Masses of international beer and food on the Bund with over 250 beer vendors, DJs and performers. The entrance fee comes with a free beer and game token, so for this weekend only it’s well worth braving the crowds of people at Shanghai’s biggest tourist attraction. The Friday opening time is 6pm, then it opens on Saturday and Sunday from 2pm.

Based on a novel by Liu Cixin, Hear the Way in the Morning is a 3-part multimedia performance. It includes an electronic production of Chopin’s “24 Preludes, Op. 28”, performed live by a pianist, and a Chinese folk-tale called Diaochan. There will be two shows, both with English subtitles, the second is at 10pm on Sunday.
