Just in time for Chongyang Festival, China’s Senior Day, a story of one adorable and ingenious elderly couple from Luoyang has gone viral across the Chinese internet.
79-year-old Xu Suobao made a special wheelchair for his wife, Zhoushu Di, who has been suffering from rheumatism for nearly 40 years.
“She always wants to go around outside, go to the park, to the hospital.” Xu says. “She would ‘drive’ her wheelchair and I would follow along behind, but if the distance was too great then I simply couldn’t keep up, but I would worry if she went off alone, so I made some changes to her wheelchair.”
According to China Daily, the contraption provides seating space for both husband and wife. It runs on batteries and comes with a toilet for emergencies.
Netizens around China have voiced their heartfelt support for the couple. They have named Xu’s wheelchair the “Wheelchair of Love,” and have deemed the two worthy of the title of “The Most Beautiful Couple.”
Chongyang Festival or Double Ninth Festival is a special day in China for you to show your respect and affection for the elderly. Oh yeah and it’s today! Don’t worry, if you didn’t know, just be kind to the elderly for the rest of the year to make up for it.
