At least 121 people were injured in a Macau-HK ferry crash off the waters of Lantau Island yesterday evening, including 14 who remain in serious condition.
The Horta Jetfoil crashed into an “unidentifed object” on its way back to Hong Kong from Macau at 6:41 p.m., causing passengers to be suddenly thrown violently from their seats, reports Apple Daily. A total of 163 passengers and 11 crew members were on board.
The accident caused the ferry boat to lose power, leaving victims frightened, injured and stumbling around in the darkness. “It was total chaos. Everyone was bleeding,” one passenger told reporters.
HKFP reports that many doctors and nurses who were off duty returned voluntarily to help treat the injured streaming in to hospitals from the boat crash.
