Traffic inspectors in Yunnan appear to be borrowing from early 20th century American President Theodore Roosevelt’s foreign policy by making sure to always carry around some very big sticks.
They were exposed using their unreasonably long clubs in pictures leaked online earlier this week showing them threatening and whacking away at a man.
According to NetEase, the incident occurred at at a traffic stop in Zhenxiong county in Yunnan. Inspectors stopped a vehicle driving to nearby Zaotong county and asked the family inside to get out of the car.
However, the driver’s cousin was sleeping comfortably in the back and didn’t want to get up from his nap. One official returned to the car and shouted at the man, “I told you to get out the car, but you still haven’t got out!” He then proceeded to drag the sleepy man from the vehicle.
From there things seem to have escalated quickly with the traffic inspectors grabbing some insanely long sticks and going after the man while his wife tried to protect him from their blows.
The level of violence has shocked Chinese netizens who also can’t help but wonder where did the inspectors get clubs that long anyway?
“This is the way that Japanese devils at Hengdian beat Chinese people, but that is fake, this is real,” commented one netizen from Shandong.
Here is a dramatic reenactment of the incident:
