5-year-old Han Jiaying has become a celebrity in China thanks to her astounding talent of hypnotizing animals and putting them to sleep with just the touch of her hand.
Over the past few months, Han has shocked viewers and judges on multiple Chinese TV talent show competitions by performing hypnosis on an assortment of different animals. Seriously, shocked. Look at this face:
Han performs her trick by simply flipping each animal on its back and then stroking its stomach, sending the creature into a hypnotic daze.
With a shout or the ring of the bell, the animals are brought back from their hypnotic state, much to the amazement of the audience and again the judges:
The Global Times has provided a scientific basis for Han’s seemingly magical animal whispering abilities, explaining that the little girl is placing the creatures in a state of “tonic immobility.” Some animals play dead as a defense mechanism and Han has somehow learned to replicate that response. While other people have apparently learned this trick as well, they are normally a bit older than 5 years old.
Han says that she first learned the trick when someone brought a frog to her kindergarten class. Through perhaps excessive petting, she mastered the skill.
Check out her breakout performance on one Chinese talent shows where she manages to put a lizard, dog, frog, chicken and rabbit to sleep in just a couple of minutes:
And this performance where she mixes it up a bit with a small crocodile, crayfish, lizard, bird and dog:
Here’s her performing at home:
And on the street:
While many online are speculating about what animal Han will try to hypnotize next, we know that the real challenge will only come when she is pitted against Princess the Hypnodog, in an epic battle to see who comes out awake:
Don’t try this at home unless you are a professional or a five year old girl.
