Shanghai Improv Festival @ The Shanghai Comedy Club
The People’s Republic of Comedy presents a weekend of improvised comedy for it’s 2nd Shanghai International Improv Festival. Add the WeChat account “improvshanghai” to keep up-to-date and don’t forget to bring a barrel of laughs.

Dirty Fingers @ Yuyintang
A local group of bad-ass punk rockers back in Shanghai for a hometown gig on their nationwide tour. They’re getting big in the Chinese underground music scene thanks not only to their funny name, but their energy on stage too.

Bubba’s 10th Annual Chilli Cook-off @ Wellington International College
Every year Bubba’s beer fuelled chilli revolution lifts the spirits of Shanghai chilliphiles for just a day and it’s back. There should be around 20 or so vendors brewing up chilli sensations for everyone to sample, and what’s more there’s a competition that can be entered online. They have beer, food, live music and a large playing field for those who want to act like children.

Leta Hong Fincher: Leftover Women @ M Glam
M on the Bund has been hosting Shanghai Literature Week and this afternoon Leta Hong Fincher discusses the resurgence of gender inequality in the PRC. She published ‘Leftover Women’ in 2014 and it has since been cited by media including The Economist, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

Shadow Theatre “Fireflies” @ Shanghai Theatre Academy

The Valley of Astonishment @ People’s Theatre
A play about alternative ways of seeing inspired by neurological research and Farid Attar’s ‘The Conference of the Birds’. Directed by Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne, Brook is highly credited for his post-1980s intercultural works, particularly the adaption of Indian stories such as La Mahabharata.
