Shadow Theatre “Fireflies” @ Shanghai Theatre Academy
A theatre troupe from the Ukraine that was a finalist in Ukraine’s Got Talent, and appeared in a number of other variety shows in Russia, Poland and Germany. Should be a good show to take the kids to see, but get your tickets quick because STA always sell out.

European Food Festival @ The Waterfront
Today is the final day of this year’s European Food Festival. Commemorating 40 years of diplomatic relations between the EU and PRC, the organisers of French Week organise another fancy food festival. Expect cheese, chocolate and all the home comforts that you miss so dearly.

Opening Weekend @ Pie Society
For its opening weekend, Pie Society is offering free drinks and special meal deals. The first 50 customers receive a complimentary Jameson whiskey and ginger and there is a free keg of ale at 6pm. The pie and mash or bangers and mash set, which comes with 2 sides and a soft drink, whiskey or ale, is only 85 RMB! The British pie-makers are famous for catering top notch grub to music festivals and other big events in the UK. It is toted as the first eatery in Shanghai to offer proper steak and kidney pies made with shortcrust pastry and top quality Australian beef.

Bicycle Film Festival @ Factory Five
Films showing for the last day of the bicycle-themed film fest are ‘Cinematic Shorts’ at 5pm and one final pun, ‘Urban Bike Shorts’, at 7pm. It’s a first time for Bicycle Film Festival in the PRC, running all week at venues across the city. The event sprang up 15 years ago and it has since spread to 60 countries.

The Valley of Astonishment @ People’s Theatre
A play about alternative ways of seeing inspired by neurological research and Farid Attar’s ‘The Conference of the Birds’. Directed by Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne, Brook is highly credited for his post-1980s intercultural works, particularly the adaption of Indian stories such as La Mahabharata.

Shenyang and the Stradivari Quartet @ Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall
Shenyang will lead the Stradivari Quartet to perform ‘Winterreise’, composed by Franz Schubert. Shenyang is renowned baritone singer who has performed this year with Opernhaus Zürich and the Washington National Opera, along with Julie Taymor’s ‘The Magic Flute’ that showed in Shanghai last month.
