Rescue operations are still ongoing in Lishui, Zhejiang province, after a massive mudslide buried an entire neighborhood on Friday. Five days later and with only one survivor rescued, spirits can get pretty low, except that is for the tireless rescue pups.
A set of photos was published online yesterday showing the bruised and battered search and rescue dogs of the Zhejiang fire department. These pics have melted the hearts of netizens, making them temporarily forget about the 26 people killed in the disaster and the 11 others still listed as missing. Because, brave puppy!
At around 10:50 p.m. on Friday a deluge of rock and mud buried some 27 homes and flooded 21 others in Lishui. Victims of the disaster ranged in age from 2 years old to 92. Quickly, more than 2,300 rescue workers arrived on the scene and worked through the nights with the help of seven rescue dogs to locate any survivors. Their efforts have been delayed by near constant rainfall, but the rain hasn’t dampened the spirits of these courageous canines.
After browsing through the pictures, many netizens couldn’t help but wish that they could care for the loyal pooches.
“People also deserve praise, but without help from the dogs, the rescuers would get nowhere. Dogs’ loyalty is worthy of our praise,” one neitzen explained.
