While it may have taken them a while to find the 700 sq meter basement illegally constructed under a hutong in Dongcheng District, Beijing authorities are wasting absolutely no time in filling that sucker in.
A reporter from the Beijing Times happened to pay a visit to the infamous secret underground
lair parking lot yesterday and found that a whole crew of workers were already there to begin the work of filling it back in with dirt and ash.
Workers told the reporter that the project is estimated to take around a month to complete and cost between 600,000 RMB to 1 million RMB.
The cavernous underground bunker was discovered last week by authorities after an annoyed neighbor ratted its owner out. Only partially completed, the basement is three stories deep and at least 700 square meters in area. The resident told officials that it was garage. After all, as we all know, parking in Chinese cities can be a bitch.
