Hopefully residents of Inner Mongolia’s capital of Hohhot enjoyed the new American sci-fi blockbuster “The Martian” (which just opened this weekend in China and made $50.1 million at the box office), because they now appear to be living in it.
As we reported earlier today, with Chinese President Xi Jinping visiting Paris for the start of the COP21 UN Conference on climate change summit, a giant 530,000 sq km chunk of China is being seized by severe smog. However, no place is so surreal as Hohhot.
The city has been hit by a thick yellowish-brown layer of smog that has shrouded downtown in an eerie landscape of otherworldly darkness that even Genghis Khan can not conquer.
On the bright side, it really does give you hope for finding life on Mars one day:
