More details have emerged regarding Sunday morning’s high-profile Koenigsegg crash in Chongqing, and you’re not going to believe this, but the driver might have been drunk.
The driver destroyed a 25 million yuan Koenigsegg Agera R just after midnight on Sunday by ramming it straight into a barricade on the side of the road in Chongqing’s Yubei district. Initial reports of the accident said that the driver was a young man and he remained seated inside the car until a tow truck came by some two hours later.
According to iFeng, police detained the 26-year-old driver surnamed Liu after the crash for driving under the influence.
Despite the early hour, onlookers flocked to the scene following the crash, presumably to pray for the health and safety of the unfortunate Koenigsegg driver. While they were standing around in solidarity, they also happened to notice the driver get out of the car, escorted by police, with a jacket over his head concealing his identity.
However, before being put into the back of a squad car, the man asked an officer a quick question and then proceeded to take a piss on the road.
Witnesses also happened to notice that the wrecked supercar had no license plate. It turns out that the car was a rental, and wouldn’t you know it, the driver had managed to crash it on his very first drunken joyride.
The identity of the driver was under serious speculation, with one of the city’s most prominent fuerdais even taking to Weibo to deny accusations that he was involved in the crash.
According to the car company, the Koenigsegg is currently sitting in a Chongqing garage awaiting repairs; however, there are rumors that the luxury car will need to be sent back to Sweden in order to be fixed.
