A group of kindhearted strangers from Changchun, Jilin province teamed up to save a dog after it’d fallen into a partially open manhole last week.
According to the first passerby surnamed Lu, she was alerted by the sound of a barking dog while on her way to work in the frigid morning. “I heard it whining,” Lu told reporters.
Following the sound, Lu discovered an uncovered manhole nearby. Through the gap, she spotted a dog trapped inside, begging for help.
Shortly afterward, more shivering but warmhearted citizens gathered around and tried to think up the best method to save the pup. They went about breaking open the cover completely using various tools. With the help of some heavy-duty, professional tools, several municipal workers eventually managed to pry the cover off, then one of them descended down into the hole to carry the poor little thing out.
Lu told reporters that the dog has been sent to a vet for an examination and that it’s very healthy. She is keeping the dog for now, hoping to find the owner and return it.
The temperature was minus 9 degrees Celsius that day.
Dogs rescue people. People rescue dogs. It’s all one big benevolent cycle.
