Early Tuesday morning, officers on patrol in Hangzhou’s famous West Lake spotted more than 10 Chinese uncles and aunties going for a refreshing night swim in the chilly waters.
Police tried to round up the swimmers, giving one of the men a 50 yuan fine; however, upon reaching land another cunning uncle was able to slip away in the mist.
The “no swimming” regulations at West Lake aren’t terribly complicated; however, officers report that they are seeing an increase in mostly elderly swimmers taking advantage of the cover of darkness to go for an illegal dip. They say this is a dangerous habit (what with all the crashing cars and cigarette butts floating in the lake) and are increasing patrols to crackdown on these not-so-juvenile delinquents.
Of course, if these aunties and uncles really want to go somewhere where they can swim where they want, how they want, they should really think about moving to Chongqing. Pretty much anything goes there as far as we can tell.
