In the wake of the attacks in Paris last month, administrators at one university in Hangzhou have apparently been worrying, “With the G20 summit in town next year, we could be next!”
To make sure that police are prepared for such an eventuality, the university held “counter-terrorism drills” on campus last week, and you’ll never guess who they found to hold the machetes.
In photos from the event, two foreign students are seen playing the role of the terrorists, holding female students hostage as a SWAT team in camouflage advances on them behind riot shields.
According to NetEase, here’s how the drill went down: during a peak time on campus, a group of well-dressed hoodlums broke onto campus, carrying lethal weapons, throwing smoke bombs and looking to menace and kill. They eventually captured three hostages and had a stand off with the law. However, negotiations soon broke down and the SWAT team was forced to eliminate one of the attackers when he started to go for the kill on his hostage. From there, it was easy to subdue the other frightened terrorists.
There may have also been some Chinese terrorists, but they look to have been less of a concern for police.
It’s not clear if the international students pictured volunteered to play terrorist; however, even if they did it would seem to be questionable casting on the administrators’ part, if only China was actually racist that is.
