The self-proclaimed Wonton Don behind Donnie Does has released another “last ever” video, a catchy rap jam for Shanghai ren to jam to and reminisce. In it, he appears in front of various signature Shanghai spots such as The Shelter and Lawson’s.
If you are somehow unaware of this boisterous American character once living in China, he is known for enlightening himself about rural China, attending (and being banned from) Shanghai Sharks basketball games and boxing matches, fully experiencing IKEA, and becoming a DJ. He’s even starred in an extremely awkward televised Chinese dating show.
Though his character seems absurd, Donnie is pure satire and brillantly exposes issues such as how easy it is for a white face to get a teaching gig in China or to pretend to be a celebrity that you very faintly resemble.
